A New Day

by Michelle White   Dec 4, 2011

And so the saying goes,
'I've been hurt so no longer will I feel,'
I'm sad to say, for me,
This statement is not real,
I wish I could close my heart,
To all of this hurt and pain,
But somehow I can't let go,
It circulates through my veins,
Every morning when I wake,
I think maybe today is the day,
That there memories wont seem so bad,
And the pain will fade away,
But as the day passes by,
And the dusk creeps in,
I know it's just a matter of time,
Not 'if' but 'when',
When will these memories,
Come back to haunt my mind?
When does it get better?
Because for me, it isn't with time,
I know I'll never forget,
But when will I move on?
When is going to be the day,
I can say 'the battle is finally won?'
Because you see my memories affect,
The things I try to do,
Even the most simple of things,
I seem to misconstrue,
All that I'm asking for,
Is my past to remain the past,
That glistening tear on my cheek,
Please let it be the last,
Because today is a new day,
And I want to live it in the present,
No looking back, no regrets,
Today, I'm ending this torment.

Very well wrought. The flow, syntax and overall structure of this poem is amazing. I'm really a big fan of writings that don't seem forced, and have rhythmic schemes that are parallel to the content.

    5/5.
