Grandma's Cookies Care Package

by Freeze Tyler   Dec 8, 2011

It's hard looking at the past
Knowing we'll never get it back,
But a comforting fact knowing
We will always have at least that memory
Or those tears from that laugh.
A hard time in the face of a holiday
And a season dependent on their happiness;
A happiness we won't get to see but lives on
Through the stories we tell.
I know mommy that this is hardly
The best remedy for a lost mother,
But at least now she is with your brother
Waiting for another one of us to join;
Waiting patiently to bring you more joy.
Now I know you might be missing yours,
But I'm thankful to still have mine
Throughout the hard times,
And the dinners past nine,
And the messes in my room that I never claimed as mine.
I made it through those rough times
When life is tough enough
To make you not want to carry on,
Knowing that you're my mom.
And I may not speak it out loud everyday
But it makes me very proud to say
That I love you and I hope you make it past this rough day
That creeps on us like the weight of the world,
And clusters and whirls around the thoughts in our mind
Back to those recent sad times.
If I've gained one thing it's your endurance,
To stride on through against any current
That is pulling me away from being happy.
But sadly, this current is like a wave,
And I know we will be okay
It will just take a little extra this year.
And I know you fear that we won't be happy,
But I'll take care of you, and you can take care of me,
And we will work together as a family
To get through this time of remembering
The loss of a dear loved one.

It is obvious that you have poured out your heart to your mom in her loss, yet your sorrow for your grandmother's passing is vivid as well.

In truth, the poem speaks volumes of your realization of your own mother's mortality. In your comforting of her on the loss of your grandmother, you presage the very things to which you will take to heart when she passes.

You have attained wisdom through anguish - such is the human condition. Wonderful expression of this experience.
