What Does It Mean?

by xoxShorteexox   Dec 11, 2011

If I said that I believe you're the missing link,
to my heart and soul, would you flee from me?
Would you leave me alone in the darkness,
to meet the fate you have so cruelly chosen?

When you've chosen to give such short answers,
with less than desirable romance, what is expected?
Can there be faithfulness without a truce for the moment,
even if you never choose to love me in any way?

The times you've brushed your lips across my cheek,
with your foolish schoolboy one liners, what did it mean?
Was that your way of expressing things you cannot say,
or did I misinterpret this playful demeanor you so dearly hold?

So tonight when you try to put your arms around my waist,
with your friends all staring so plainly, I'll ask "what does it mean?"
Will you answer me tonight on this crowded dance floor,
or leave me foolishly and breathless all alone forever more?

I think that the title is quite eye-catching and it already causes the reader to think without even knowing what you might be refering to. I like the fact that you proved in your poem how important it is to get things clear without leaving one wondering.
Sometimes one doesn't want to hear the true answer though, which keeps them from asking.

I definately agree with TJ, I really loved this poem because the doubt the protagonist seems to have is reasonable and I hope that in case this isn't "just" a poem, that you found your answer.

I'm almost speechless after reading this. There is something about a poem that questions that not only makes the reader think but adds a reality to what has been written. Excellently penned.
