Soldier: Dead Inside

by jocelyn   Dec 11, 2011

I was born with a bullet in my heart and war in my soul.
A killer of men.
A warrior without a cause.
Uncle Sam, you wanted me all along
The perfect soldier for every fight.
I lend my fists to break whatever I touch.
I sign over my body to fill your black bags.
And I lose my mind to be a war machine.
I am your gun, pull the trigger.

I was born on a dark night
A star hidden in clouds.
Watch me shine bright
Tonight the sky is full of fire.
I brought a war to you
The one you sent me to fight.
I left and came home
No longer who I was.
The fight's in my head.
The gun's in my hand.
Gave me a bullet
Sent me into the night.
Oh captain, don't you know
I was born without a beating heart.

Thank you Mr. President
I was happy to serve.
Thank you so much
For sending me to war.
I came back with a scar
That no one else can see.
But don't worry Mr. President
Soon it'll only be a memory.
The clock is ticking
Soldiers die everyday.
Please sir, I beg you
Send me back out again.

You made me what I am
Giving me a lie for a cause.
Liberty and freedom
Taste like ash in my mouth.
It's been a long day
Full of blood and dying.
Can't I rest for once
Take my boots off and cry.
I gave myself to you
To fight your petty battles.
But a lifetime of fighting
Leaves you a weary man.
You'll sleep when your dead
Won't someone kill me?
