He's Becoming a Soldier

When you first hear
Of your friend making a choice
Going into the military
Your last thought is to rejoice.

On March 27th of 2012
He will leave to San Antonio for basics
Then school and his first active duty
I just can't bear to hear it.

We have not known each other that long
But I am starting to feel from my heart
He's becoming a soldier
And less than a year he will depart.

He left here late last night
After holding me close while I tried to sleep
I was having a hard time with family issues
And he said he would come comfort my weeps.

As I was laying there in his arms
I had just started to realize
That my feelings for him were strong
And I could see myself in his eyes.

He laid there rubbing my back
And his hand was held in mine
I was half asleep when I said:
"You're an amazing kind of guy."

He peeked over at me and asked
"Now why do you think that?"
I told him that he just was
And he smiled and said "I know that!"

Not too long later he started to get up
He whispered in my ear saying he has to go
I was mostly asleep and just nodded my head
He knelt by the bed and I saw that his eyes glowed.

He then gave me a gentle kiss on my cheek
Put on his jacket and gave me one last glance
Then headed out the door
I hope I didn't lose my chance.

How could I fall head over heals
For a guy that is about to leave
How can I stop my heart from loving
A person that means much to me.

Only once before I had felt this way
I never thought it could happen again in this life
But how do I explain this feeling I have
My heart is finally healing its strife.

I guess we have to take it
One long day at a time
And make each moment spectacular
And look forward to next time.
