Pennies On The Floor

by believeinlove87   Dec 13, 2011

Have you ever wondered how the homeless get to where they are?
Have you ever wondered the daily struggles they go through?

People throwing pennies on the floor,
watching them scramble around to pick them up,
laughing at how ridiculous they look, telling them to get
off their butts and get a real job,
faces dropped into hurtful scowls as they think " You really think
I want to live this life style? "

Pushing shopping carts along the sidewalks,
trying to find old bottles and aluminum cans for money,
dumpster diving to get thrown out food for their starving stomachs,
mouth so dry even the tiniest sip of a water settles their thirst,
holding up a can begging for even the sparest of change.

Huddled around fires started in trash cans for warmth,
using cardboard boxes as shelter,
old raggedy blankets, torn up clothes, anything to preserve there body heat,
trying anything to get into homeless shelters, even jail,
knowing that the longer they don't eat, longer they don't drink,
death is one minute closer.

Have you ever wondered how the homeless get to where they are?
Have you ever wondered the daily struggles they go through?
You barely glance as you walk on by, maybe if you're in the mood throw down a few quarters,
don't judge them for living the way they do,
not everybody chooses this lifestyle.

This reminds me of the song Dear President by P!nk. This is definitely an amazing poem that you wrote and so truthful; I think about them a lot when I walk by them.

    5/5
