Talking Tall

by Michael D Nalley   Dec 21, 2011

Many people see me as six feet tall.
Compared to stars I am really quite small.
Even I have often wondered who I am,
Born on the cusp of Leo, Virgo, on the lamb?
It is when I have tried to be strong,
Most observers have got me wrong.
Honest liars take pride in humility,
While attempting to judge Divinity.
That is somehow over all of our heads
As a searching light shines in the beds
Of the self righteous sinners who deny
A higher power, the throne on high.
Religiously pious for heaven's sake,
Yet we've been tempted by a snake.
The shallow may see me as odd
I ask myself, who is like God?
Many will see me before I sleep
In a grave that is six feet deep.
Pray my soul answers a sacred call,
In paradise where He will judge us all.

* Michael translates to "who is like God?" This Michael was born on August 26 Virgo with a Leo cusp running from an ego, but that is not how most see me.

Now this piece really moved me... I loved the flow of the poem, but that is a minor statement in comparison to ho this poem touched me. I do love the way you expressed your emotions, your passion towards your faith and love for God... it is felt...deeply felt in this piece and I applaud you.

I could say that it's about equality? seeing others in subjective points of view? but in the end... we're all the same, so why talking tall? The only one who'd talk tall to us is him, Allah.

Great message Michael. If it's about that, and I missed many things... then, amazing amazing piece my friend. I wonder why it didn't make the 1st round, and my stupid poem did... real pity, like Hellon said.

    * Edited: I don't think that the idea of having a LEO ego, knowing that you are a Virgo, has anything to do with its flat meaning.
I think you meant here not the zodiac, but the word itself. LEO, as a lion, strong. People see you strong, knowing that you are not (Virgo, as a sensitive woman)..... mmm... I love it, Michael. I really do.

ummm... it's hard to grasp the exact meaning, some help please? :)

but at any level, I love how smooth it went, yet how vivid every line seemed.

This poem is very interesting and really makes the reader question their own beliefs and the way they view things. A deep write.

OMG Michael, what can I say about this? I really have no words, except that you are a master with words.
It flows and feels perfect. First few lines were my favorite, but I loved the whole thing as well.

Well, I am a Virgo too, what does that make me look like in others eyes?

    God bless you

The way I understood this piece is that no one really know us except god. That no one has the right to judge us except him. I really enjoy the comparison you made about being tall and that compare to the stars you are not. I also like the way you incorporated zodiac signs to say that sometimes you really don't know if you are a Virgo or a Leo. Also the way you use the snake, how we can easily be tempted. Well done.
