December must be tired
of being called upon, of being
thrown beside sloppy adjectives,
being the spoon to stir lamb stew -

I loved your outlook on this...December hosts one of the most important days of the years for most and yet...you became December here and told us no....NOT AGAIN

My hand should know better.

I should be scribbling of how
there was no film of snow for children
to wrinkle. How unimpressed the wind was
as it went about its business.
How a thrush scratched at the garden mulch.

I wasn't t too sure about the snow being wrinkled...it's just not how I would have described it but...I can see what you mean here..also the thrush was hard for me to imagine because my memories are of little robins with tiny 'footprints'in the snow...

Or of the foolishness of a boy to think
that an apology could fit into a box
under the christmas tree.

Now this is more serious because I have a son who thinks he can fix all mistakes with a special presentt under the tree...I'm still working on that one with him.

I liked this one because it gave me both a memory and a reality.

Well,
I loved this becuase well, at this time of year, we feel accostomed to write about December and the snow and christmas, it's our way.

Also that last stanza, I can relate because I know many people who send presents and think this makes up for things they have said or done in the past.

I think you did a great job on the wording and flow, it was flawless

I quite like this poem.

I don't know if anyone else sees this as the same as I do but it feels as though you were saying that Christmas has lost its meaning.

The gift of giving is not from the heart but other alternative motives behind them.

Not only boys think that apologies can fit
into a box under christmas trees. I have seen many adults who have the same kind of thought. But for the sake of harmony, let us embrace each other and go ahead. It is allways a pleasure to read your pieces Colm.
