Origami

by Karla   Dec 28, 2011

She folded the yellow paper in half
to make a crease, then folded it again
and again, recapturing patiently
a thousand runaway children
as creativity awakened her hopeless hands,
opening her mind's forgotten doors.

When the bird was completely folded,
it was her who could finally fly.

*Origami possesses a lot of therapeutic advantages. It is used to help individuals with psychological problems such as anxiety, suicidal tendencies, depression, low self-esteem and etc. People who are having emotional and mental problems sense a feeling of acceptance while being taught the art of origami. Realizing someone is willing to take the time to teach and show them how to do this activity promotes positive emotions. More information available here:

I like this short and insightful poem. Much depth in the words. I may have to come back later to make an attempt.

This is a very inspirational poem and conveys a lot of meaning in a short write.

    I have three minor suggestions:
I would delete the words, "to make a crease"
because it is not essential to the poem and disrupts the flow, imo.

"when the bird was completely folded"
doesn't make much sense, since the paper is folded into a bird. Perhaps, "when the paper had transformed into a bird"

Also "it was her who could finally fly"
    is grammatically incorrect."

Should be: "it was she who could finally fly."

    Overall, a very nice write!!
