Suspended

by Jenni Marie   Dec 31, 2011

Been far to weak for far to long
allowed you slither under my skin
sly, and even more cunning
than the serpent that tempted Eve

Tangled yourself up in such a knotted web
eventually, you'll be suspended upside down
deceit flashed in those {honest} looking eyes
but, no longer will I allow you to fool me

Those walls you fought so hard to pull down
slowly, they're reerecting thesmelves once more
and no matter how many hammers you throw
I'll make sure they're so sturdy, none may enter

Especially not you, not any longer
for you're the reason they must go back up
trusted you implicitly, shame on me
for you're as honest as an addict in withdrawal

No longer will I allow you into my mind
and if I have to, I'll take a knife to cut you from my heart
I'll delete texts, throw out gifts, burn all those pictures
For not the slightest trace of you shall ever remain

And never again,
Will I let you tear down those walls.

trusted you implicitly, shame on me
for you're as honest as an addict in withdrawal

I love this piece because you are so strong in the end. I liked the imagery of "tearing down the walls"- you are now standing against it and you leave the reader feeling determined, and also encouraged.

"No longer will I allow you into my mind
and if I have to, I'll take a knife to cut you from my heart
I'll delete texts, throw out gifts, burn all those pictures
For not the slightest trace of you shall ever remain"

    - This was such a raw and honest stanza. I loved it because you know you gotta be strong here and you are not giving up. You will move on, you will forget his memory and not be affected by it anymore. I feel like there is some trace of hope and that over time you can rebuild that trust, though you were hurt deeply.

Excellent emotion and a great read.
    Keep writing!
