She stood there in the pouring rain
all drenched,
all cold
she had no clue what to do.
She had no umbrella
nor coins in her torn pocket
the hours raced and she left with a lingering gaze.
Years later she returned to that same spot
standing, waiting and pacing
then she saw a lady come out
of the pretty house.
She asked about the owner
Oh, him the nice lady sighed.
She knew it in her eyes
the blow would come.
Didn't you hear
he left a year ago
to some far island for some work?
He was very sad,
seemed he was searching for someone
he waited for her all the years
she didn't turn up you see
went on the lady with friendly chatter.
Her eyes stung with tears
All I got is a letter the neighbour continued
She told her name and the lady nearly cried
Wait here, she told and rushed.
She gave the crumpled letter to the sad woman
with the big blue eyes.
She read it and as tears went down her face
she ran to her car.
She called the number on the letter
and he answered on the third ring
I have always been waiting for you, he said softly while joyful tears flooded her sapphire eyes.
