Butterfly

by Anu   Jan 3, 2012

The candle flickers
troubling his thoughts
as he sat there in the dark.
Alone he stared out
a lonely moon sat atop the sky
like a royal princess on a icy cool throne.
He smiled wanly wondering
why it was too cold that night.
For years loneliness had been his companion
Had he aged?
He feared that but he kept smiling and laughter
made him look younger than his years.

He knew what others saw
a happy man living life as it comes,
but only he knew the depth of his dull life.
He was just a man all happy outside
but a deep sad loneliness eating inside
which he kept hidden from the rest.
He was like a butterfly bringing joy
to others but keeping the sadness alone.
A man whose sadness will bring tears to some
who hold him dear in their hearts.
