Perfect Aunt

by Tangerine   Jan 8, 2012

You are your own brand
of rose-colored glasses.
You only see what is perfect.

The world is about to burst
into wonders for me.
But you..
you want to put out my flame.
A waving flag of contempt
made for your kin.

Dismayed.
I long to be free.
Not to feel like a bug
being studied by you.

You say Young lady,
be smart,
be safe.
Well I am safe without you,
Smarter, too.

This I say to you
Teach yourself to number your days,
for they are few.

Afraid of aging,
of wrinkling,
and sagging,
aren't you?

But dear Aunt
I tell you this..
Only death is perfect,
an absolute.
The highest price of your pride,
will be sorrow at its best.
So stop acting
and start being true.
You are one of us.
And the truth is,
you bleed just like us.
