What Movies Don't Portray

by Ronnie   Jan 11, 2012

You'll never know this,
unless you've been there
But bullets crack and snap,
as they whip past, through the air

They also zip and whizz,
if they get any closer
If you don't hear them at all,
then you're most likely a goner

And explosions are not all,
golden fireballs of course
Instead they are an intense,
powerful but dull force

That'll rip through anything,
within its might, undeterred
To the unfortunate victims,
it won't even be heard

And the tiredness of battle,
doesn't pass in a moment
It lingers for days,
as you outwit and fight your opponent

Hunger will be rife,
with no breaks to eat
And you could walk for days,
with untreated blisters on your feet

Then there's the smell of sulphur
and carbon in you nose
And the musty smell of blood
often staining your clothes

And the sweat and aches,
of a tough mans hard labour
Which the weight of equipment
and bullets doesn't lend any favours

So next time you watch a movie,
with your ears and your eyes
Have a think of the senses,
which aren't being utilised

As there's a lot more to war,
than just hearing and seeing
In theatre its felt clearly,
by real life human beings.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but this poem is powerful and the imagery fills in the gaps no motion picture ever could
