Austin, this is sad and the reader can feel that sadness. You bring an original idea that as a love affair fails, our heart begins to fade and to think about it, that is very true. I hope this is just a poem and not happening now.

Still, your words burn my soul,
    captivated by a promise
    of perfection,

This stanza portrays to me a love that is so beautiful and true filling one's heart with promised true love that there is nothing wrong but perfection..

    yet my broken heart yearns
for lies fed from your lips.

...and this part just proves it wrong yet the heart that loves does not want to except it instead just want to hear those same words which aren't true..a sad intense write.

Hope all is well with you..take care.

Well done that man. It says what needs to be said. We all hear it with ears to listen.
    Very good

The way you started this piece really captured me as did, well, the entire piece. You used suck simple lines, plain words, and a smooth flow to create something truly stunning. I would give a "true" comment here, but honestly I dont know how to say what I think about this piece. I mean I love it and I love the emotion in it, but I seem to be lacking the vocabulary needed to describe my thoughts of this, if that even makes any sense at all... sorry if it doesnt though,

    Anyway, 5/5 for sure

    The first stanza is captivating.

"Still, your words burn my soul,
    captivated by a promise
    of perfection,
    yet my broken heart yearns
for lies fed from your lips."
-> My favorite stanza. We are all so obssessed with escapism; all that running away from pain. Any promise made by someone we love catapults the mind to our yearning for freedom from all the pain this world gives us.

The third stanza is the saddest, I suppose.. Being abandoned or forgotten by someone we love is indeed painful.

Beautifully penned and a great read. 5/5 :)
