Forever In a Tree

by Maple Tree   Jan 18, 2012

When I was five, small and limber
climbing high, among-st giant timber

drifted to sleep for an hour or so
getting lost within a moonlit glow

ageless tree limb became my bed
emerald leaves caressed a weary head

floating along a riverbed of gold
wishing upon stars to never grow old

Looking out my window, softly I sigh
yearning to retreat to that mountain on high

forever young, In denim jeans and bare toes
getting lost for eternity, each time that I doze....

Special Thank You to: Lebanese Phoenix

For his thought provoking comment on another one of my poems "Maybe we age, but our souls can still be young as a 5 years old."

His comment inspired me to write about a time when I was 5...falling asleep in a tree in my back yard. Thank you~

Aww this was a great idea, I am glad LP left the comment which triggered this for you because this is so beautiful. It amazes me that you can recall a time when you were younger and write about it so clearly that you create the impression it was only yesterday.

Your idea's and talent are just endless. Loved this one.

    Indeed.
    amazing job..

I found the next part humorous and somehow Ironic.. because many 5 years old want to grow up as for you, you didn't. As for me, I was reluctant but that was not my choice. haha.

Oh MT, you are very welcomed for being able to inspire you........ to make such a beautiful young, fresh piece. See? there you are... 5 years old again, in your old blue jeans with the wind caressing your face.... it's so mesmerizing and refreshing. A beautiful piece of art...

Oh I love the youthness of this poem.

It makes me think of my past and how I used to climb one tree in our backyard. Though the tree was high itself I could not go any further than what I did for fear of heights.

Nor could I sleep in the tree for fear that something would eat me lol

    A well written poem

    LOVED IT
