The Water

by Aerie Gerard   Jan 21, 2012

It melts your bones to water, freezes blood inside your veins,
A ripple effect in the ocean, one teardrop that turns to waves.
I feel hands let go of my hands, I feels sand below my feet,
As I scream in the darkness, "Don't go, you won't come back to me."
Its the vastness of the lake and its the cave where sadness drifts,
Where I know that there is danger, I am filled with emptiness.
Don't go to the water, lest you die, leave me alone,
Drowning in the sorrow air that bleeds from our empty home.
And in bed, I hear your whispers, see the clouds of your eyes,
I wake up singing the song of pain heard when someone dies.
Tick tock goes the clock, til I'm surrounded by your weakness,
Your fear, your tears, your love, every denial that you need this.
One more touch until you go running over the edge,
In the worst possible fashion since that bullet missed your head.
And I could save you once, twice, until my head goes empty,
Still you deny the simple fact that you will one day need me.
And now you lay before me, bloody mouth and shattered eyes,
Your departure ripped my heart out and has left me dead inside.
And the nightmares, they still trap me. Rushing water and the fall,
Outcome: Inevitable. I throw my fist into the wall.
Now the waves they don't stop coming, and I wonder where they start,
If love is watching someone die, then I swear you have my heart.
You have saved me, you have helped me, now without you I am lost.
Still listening to the tune of a violin I long ago since tossed.
And I don't go near the water, no I don't go near your grave,
I am the hollow of a man who once was happy, can't be saved.
