Keds & Sneakers

by Larry Chamberlin   Jan 31, 2012

These kids shuffle through the crosswalk
kicking up the shadows of their future,
leaving it in a trail of dusty foot prints
waiting to be forgotten in the hectic pace
of living here and now when they get there.

Looking back to now they will ask
"Where did my future get lost?"
never realizing that it was dribbled away
in the unaware passage of obscure trips
through then to sometime from ever.

    Larry,

I have to say this poem has such a true words and true meanings.
I feel as though a lot of kids these days are not thinking about the future and where their lives will lead them to.
I love how you have expressed that they ignore their future by kicking up the shadows and leaving dusty footprints. I mean there must be so many footprints there!!!

The last stanza is so very true. It is not until you reach the future do you realise that your decisions in the past define who you become.

It made me think of my own life. For once I feel like I should have listened to my parents when they kept telling me "Save your Money"

Now I look back and am like oh geez they were right!!!

    Awesome piece Larry
