Empty skies

by Larry Chamberlin   Feb 4, 2012

The problem with not believing
is the world is plain and grey;
however beautiful the scenery
only you are there to see it,
without a god to share the dream.

Fabulous ruins are piles of rock,
teeming cities mere hives of men
and were a shuttle to bring you
into the heavens to gaze at Earth
blue marbled white is all you'd see.

Missing the spark that draws wonder
the sacred is not made real,
the world is seamless; no miracles
give rise to that quivering unknowing -
the seismic naked awe of Beyond.

Larry, I really enjoyed this poem. I really like the opening stanza, you captivated me as the reader. I also like the idea of how God and believing in something is what life is all about, and how it changes our perspective. Instead of seeing a greyscale, you'd see life in colors and enjoy the beautiful things others may not notice.

    Great poem! =)

    Oh this is awesome! Brilliant!

It made me think of my previous thoughts of having something to believe in

It's like there is this amazing nature, this beautiful surroundings that we have, this miracle of life but how can we not see these beautiful surroundings and miracles and not believe in God. Something more

It's like when a mother and father give birth to their child they turn around and say, there must be a God!!!

    Awesome Larry,
