The Sentence

by mike ernst   Feb 4, 2012

I sat in that chair, hanging my head
Nervously waiting for the charges to be read

Judge Fate walks in and thrusts down his gavel
Barks out his questions with a throat full of gravel

Rise defendant, how do you plea?
Guilty your honor comes out of me

Then no juror's needed, no trial, agreed?
I will pass judgement now for your reprehensible deed

Well, I got what I deserved there's no doubt in my mind
By now I guess you're wondering what was my crime

For breaking my wifes heart, Fate has imprisoned my soul
The sentence is life without her love, no chance of parole

Good poem, it packs a lot of emotion into the line "The sentence is life without her love, no chance of parole"
