Getting a Glass of Water

by ntv650   Feb 7, 2012

Two nights ago I fetched,
A glass from my cupboard,
Some water from the tap.

I then walked, up and down,
Up and down my room
With the light off.

And the water I drank,
It calmed the racing heart
And soothed the throat
From my insomnia.

Feeling lonely,
In that dark room
I looked for significance,
Since I could not find sleep.

I sat at my desk,
Looked out the window.
I tried distraction,
And then reason;

Friends, family
Work and play.
Hardship, relaxation...
I had no complaints.

With a gesture of dismissal,
I knocked the water glass,
Tiny marble droplets
Dappled my skin.
Their freshness made me gasp
And even smile.

Now I let it overflow,
Over my fingers,
Down my hand,
The forearm and
Off the elbow
Whenever I fill my nightly glass.

And, for reasons I cannot explain,
This brings me peace.
