World on My Shoulders

by jocelyn   Feb 12, 2012

Let the world rest on these shoulders,
They're wide and strong.
They hold the sins of others
And the guilt inside my heart.

God's watching and he's laughing.
I'm balancing the debt of my family
And my godforsaken life.
How can I afford
To make a break for freedom,
When so much is weighing me down.

Chain me to this platform,
Stack your troubles on me,
I'll hold them up for all eternity.

Scars cross my shoulders,
Bent and broken from the weight.
My legs tremble in exhaustion.
My bones creak from pressure.
My body shudders in pain.

I live a thousand lives
God has cursed me with,
I die a thousand deaths
God has gifted me with.
A small respite,
Before I take my mantle again.

Atlas shrugged his shoulders,
And the world fell onto mine.
