I'm afraid that I can't
write love poems,
at least not those
that describe the feelings
you stir up in me

One could almost say,
that if I was a tree,
then you gave me wisdom
and halt like roots,

I think what I love most is the fact this feels real. It's not decorated with hearts, and flowers, or romantic phrases but from the heart love and respect.
I think this is about the best poem I have read concerning love and emotions..

There are several things to like in this poem.

First - your tone.. it sounds so still!

Second - the images of light and shadows. I like how at first you said that you couldn't find your shadow because you cannot find your light! Now that is awesome.

Third - the comparison between the first and last states of feeling within yourself.

I think that this poem is so melodious. Awesome Jen!

I knew you were being too modest. I really enjoyed this piece and I can feel the emotions you put into this piece seeping from line to line. You have a overall love that you are pouring out and also a sense of gratitude for this person and everything that they have helped you with. The poem had a good flow though I think you carried the poem out a little longer than was needed but that could just be me. You also had some good metaphors in the poem and also some nice imagery, which always makes a poem really nice and helps it to flow better.

the dark part of me,

but the light was missing
to even recognize it."

I really enjoyed this stanza as I can see someone looking for this darkness only to realize that they don't even have the necessary equipment to find it and they are left with nothing because of how someone makes them feel. The stanza also seemed to be the strongest for me and I really enjoyed reading it.

In all, you did a good job and I really liked the message of the poem. This poem can be true for so many people and I am sure there are people who can relate to this. We all find someone who is just always themselves and in doing that they are a blessing to us. Like I said I just really like the message and I think you have a great talent and I'm glad to see you using it. I hope you continue to write and advance your skill. Great job and keep writing!

So gracefully you have described your feelings without going overboard with colorful language ... I loved the simplicity of the poem and that's how love is. .. simple and beautiful.
