New York Subway

by The Poet Behind The Poems   Feb 21, 2012

The broken glass tears through my bare feet.
Ten newspapers covering my unmitigated body,
Do they not see that I am part of humanity?

The dirt under my fingernails tells the story of desperation,
you can not see the pain unless you look through
my lifeless eyes and walk in my corroded shoes.

I see you walk everyday;
I see your elegance, your beauty inhabitating my heart,
but you look straight through me as if I was but nothing

To you this is a small part of your life, just a shortcut to the path you walk, to me it's my past, present and future. For my life is to be in this subway...
Forever...

    I love this piece so much. Others judge and walk right past homeless people without even a care in the world... acting like they are too good to even be near them. It's heartbreaking... they don't know that person or their story. Most think homeless people are just on drugs or alcoholics, which some are... but there are others that just are unfortunate, lost their job or their home...etc. You never know... sometimes all it takes is a kind word or a few dollars to lift their spirits.

    You are an amazing writer, you look at things from such a great perspective and write it beautifully.

    Wow, the ending was perfect and the scene was very eye opening on how some people want to be looked at instead of looked through.

    Well-written poems.
