When it's all I see-

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 3, 2012

I hear the terror of the unknown
I see the rage in nature's angry blow
I taste the metallic air and feel its edge
I shiver in the confusion of a warm chill
and I know.........
they will have a sleepless night.

I want to cry for those who could not
run away,
for those who lost control
or were tossed aside by chance.

It scares me to the bone
watching hopelessly as blood-red engines
rush by in a frenzy,
in a courageous attempt to outdo
the rush of hissing zephyrs.

And for once, I wish there were no
reasons why..........
I just pray that the yelling trucks
are not always needing to save-
that the muscle of nature
no longer throws
second chances to poor strangers
who didn't catch their temper.

Red spiralling
water pushed aside
blackness being chased
by the call.

But I know,
not everything can be living
without the screams, misery, trauma
I imagine- and they live
hauntingly through.
Because what happens to us
is not perfect,
and we need p r o t e c t i o n.

- Written March 2, 2012. Heard 3 sirens this past hour and it is haunting, the fire station is less than half a mile away and it's all I see, the trucks whizzing by in the black, windy night. For all the volunteer men who are going to be having a sleepless night and all the hope they have in their work. I thank God we have these brave people.
