Sadie Baker

by Michael D Nalley   Mar 9, 2012

Where I live there are local tales
of a ghost buried by the rails.
Where many a train would pass
her remains lay beneath the grass.
Not, so to speak, all alone
under a simple tombstone
that matches many others,
perhaps sisters or brothers.
I ask the old caretaker
if he knew Sadie Baker.
He just scratched his ole head
as he asked 'Alive or dead?

What I really enjoyed the most about this poem was the mystery....you told of a grave that no one quite knows the history of and...left us dangling because the mystery wasn't solved..who was Sadie Baker? Apart from being a ghost?

Loved the humour at the end Mike...it's such a Nalley poem!!!!
