Beneath the Glass, We Burn

by Lyssi Lori   Mar 16, 2012

I add insult to injury,
'cause that's my only exit strategy,
With no way out,
And no place else to go,
The acute loss of dignity,
This absence of asymmetry,
Is somewhere between
"Why?" and "I don't know."

The fork in the road is closed,
No path but the one I chose,
I go right,
But I end up wrong again.
My treasure turns to trash,
As our fire burns to ash,
And we were meant to last,
But our warranty is out.

I can't believe what I see,
You're happy without me,
And I'm the lost soul.
Glanced through the magnified lens,
Saw a pair of loose ends,
Tossed down the rabbit hole.

Regrets and relapses
Fatality is absent,
And in his stead,
Is "more than I can give".
Absolute means nothing,
And nothing is for sure,
So I'm absolutely positive.

To condemn is to be ignorant,
To smile is to be innocent,
And, honey,
I am guilty as charged.
So listen as I say,
I would waste my life away,
To take back yesterday,
And the pain I put you through.

I can't escape from this cast,
I'm entrapped in my past,
Like a fish in a bowl.
Deep under this twisted lens,
There's a pair of loose ends,
Tossed down the rabbit hole.

Mistakes are excuses to escape a consequence,
Insanity is reasoning to not make any sense,
Insanity is a freedom in this world that's so inane,
But as crazy as we say we are, we only have ourselves to blame.

I can't believe what I see,
You're happy without me,
And I'm a lost soul.
Under the bent, broken lens,
We're just a pair of loose ends,
Tossed down the rabbit hole.
