Destiny of a Marooned Dog (Free Verse)

by Daisy if you do   Mar 16, 2012

Five hundred
sixteen full moons
have navigated
the course of fate,
where gales of breath
from forefathers
have tended the mast
and set sails
for un-chartered territory.

Temperamental waters
void of ruling suns
have often found me
in the eye of the storm,
tip-toeing the plank,
eyeing waterdogs,
and flirting
with disaster.

But, alas Mercury
was always spotted
sleeping in the crows nest,
'neath Jupiter's gaze.
Its loyalty; a seamen
from where strength
was pulled from depths
of hulls, affixed to bows
where virgin damsels reside
leaving me marooned
within my own destiny.

**Written for a challenge to write about your chinese zodiac, mine is year of the dog. The poem had to be in a form so it was rewritten to conform to a Lilibonelle.

Gasp! What an opening stanza!! Any time a poet can use history in their piece and make it sound poetic, it amazes me. I find that incredibly beautiful.

And your last stanza, seriously breathtaking...I can picture the brightest planet, jupiter in the sky by the moon, and a seaman gazing up at it...the imagery was amazing, you did awesome with this!
