The Genocide

by Mattias Ostling   Mar 20, 2012

I see people walking
down the street,
afraid of strangers and
afraid of their neighbors.
People throwing wary and swift
glances at passer-bys.

As they browse shops and stores
selling devices to keep them safe
right next to stores and shops
selling items to counteract

And we ask ourselves:
"When did people
become so despaired?"
"When did people
become so ensnared?"
But we already know
the answer.

When chivalry died
when it was devoured
by Jekyll and Hyde
When kindness was
destroyed when it all
became null and void

We wonder, when did it start?
What year, what month, what week
did we lose our humanity?
And when did it end?
What day, what hour, what minute
did we lose our benevolence?

With these questions echoing in our minds
we constantly search for
ways to balance the scales,
for a way to counter
the evils in the world.
But we already know
the answer.

Give us guns,
give us rifles
and let the
genocide begin

The above questions are what strike me as the best part of this poem.

    Mattias.. Mattias.. Mattias..

In the club thread, I didn't say how beautiful that was because you were competing against me :P haha, but of course I voted for you.

I found this to be... INDESCRIBABLE!
You outdone the front page poems this week. If we compare this to them, they would look like elves, haha.

    --- anyway---

This was so thought-provoking... I believe it's about how this world became.. contradictory by all means. People are living alone in reality though they claim they're living in a global village. Like you're saying, they are always feeling endangered by others... looks are wary.. and we are feeling like strangers. This bond of humanity we once had is broken.

    We ask ourselves:
    "When did people
    become so despaired?"
    "When did people
    become so ensnared?"
    But we already know
    the answer.

^ This stanza says it all!

    We see shops and stores
selling devices to keep us safe
right next to stores and shops
    selling items to counteract

^ The contradictions here.. are so sarcastic.. in a dramatic way. We are buying safety!!!!! though others are selling danger! Everything is just so.. untrue.

    Give us guns,
    give us rifles
    so we can start
    the genocide
    we all need

^ So well said. A very dramatic end! Humanity can never be bought.. and we have become a disgrace.. that's why.. The Genocide.

This is so very deserving of the WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats, you rocked the club :)
