Porcelain Doll

by Kayley   Apr 1, 2012

(I wrote this about a friend of mine, suffering from the moster... I'd also like to note that this is NOT a writer's alias, it's actually about a friend)

Just like a little porcelain doll
A painted smile to hide her monster
A constant voice within her ear
Bright blue eyes hide fears that haunt her

Everyone always said she was pretty
But how could she believe them?
She looked into the mirror and smiled
She just couldn't ever see it

So what if she was empty?
Her new happiness outdid it.
She watched her life slip away
She just wanted to be perfect

She started to grow smaller
And smile bigger by the minute
No one would ever guess her secret
Or the danger that lied within it.

Her shining eyes had faded
Her chestnut hair grown dim
She looked away and surrendered
No longer who she'd been

They put her in her best dress
Her skin and ice akin
She was put into a wooden box
But she just wanted to be thin.

Just like a little porcelain doll
A painted smile to hide her monster
A constant voice within her ear
No longer can it haunt her
