What If You Were There-

by Poet on the Piano   Apr 6, 2012

What if you were there
to watch the nails pierce through....
What if you were there
to let the crowd shout 'crucify him'....
What if you were there
and knew this man was no enemy,
would you take the place
would you kneel and pray
for the son who came to save us?

What if you were there
to watch the soldiers whip his body....
What if you were there
to let the Pharisees rebuke him....
What if you were there
and saw this man was no criminal,
would you follow him
to the hill of Calvary,
would you stay while his blood
outpoured from Heaven?

If you were there,
would you promise him
that you'd die- for him?

If you were there,
would you never let him go?

If you were there,
would you remember
the wounds on his sides
and know that even
if you couldn't touch them,
you'd believe?

If you were there,
you would tremble
for all he gave in love
but he goes on....
his love will never die.

Today is Good Friday and the service we had was a really good reflection on Jesus' passion and what he went through after being betrayed by Judas and knowing He would have to die. There's also this song we sing every week of Lent called "Were you there?" that basically goes through each station of the cross and the agony Jesus experienced. His love is everlasting, and He gave us the greatest gift by healing and saving us who constantly sin.

    Wow MaryAnne.
I didn't expect to find this at all!

Such a lovely, faithful piece, reflecting on the crucifying, and I can get a little hint of resurrection at the very end. The method of 'questioning' is really effective in addressing your readers' hearts and souls. I was moved like mountains away. I even remembered the Passion of The Christ movie while reading. So beautiful and filled with pure faith and love.

You are so right. Jesus had endured much pain, gave his life, our sins were forgiven.
