Open Your Eyes

by Merci Perpe   Apr 6, 2012

Have you ever stopped and waited,
Waited for a sunset,
A sunset setting in the East?

Have you ever sat and looked,
Looked for a train,
A train coming on broken tracks?

I can't believe I did not see,
The sun never sets in the East.
On broken tracks a train won't be,
And just so you know the tracks are me.

These lies can murder your youth.
Murdering me and murdering you.
It makes me sicker than a flu,
But going back is what I always do.

I wrote this during a week long trip with my church where I realized that I keep trying to fix myself with the things that made me broken in the first place and also that I can't expect to see change in my life if I don't change my outlook and surroundings.
