Altering Dreams

by Chelsey   Apr 9, 2012

Some call it a fantasy land,
the place where unicorns sing
and Cumulus clouds are pink
I call it a horrifying nightmare
Where uninvited guests appear
in the ebony places in my mind

Not aware of my actions
during my unconscious state of sleep
I can only assume the way my body
twitches at the sight of you
Cramping my finger muscles
that torturously grip my blanket
Curling my toes, spasms in the heal

Restricting my feet -
I cannot run away from you

In these moments, these "fantasys"
You're trying so hard to repair
the friendship you so quickly destroyed
by your pulverizing words

If only I had the power
to alter these dreadful dreams
I'd do one of two things...

Replace you before you could show up
to avoid the heartache in the morning
or,
Awaken my body at the feel of your presence,
preventing me from seeing your face.

Wow... amazing poem Chelsey, It really deep and meaningful and very relatable, I love how at the end you two options, and both of them destroy the heartache at the end. . . . but it really doesnt happen that way, but I also love that you also added another meaning to this poem about dreams and wishing you can alter them. . . . nicely written poem :)

I can really relate to this poem. Sometimes my dreams can be my best friend and other times my worst enemy. Effortless flow. Great job. -Nik

I guess we could just take the control remote and switch the channel during our sleep. I like the idea behind it, though there are people who can do that and that is cool. :)

    Well written.

Loved this poem!!! It would be awesome if sometimes we could control our own dreams and who pops in them from time to time. I prefer my dreams not to be turned into nightmares. I love the images in this poem and I can so relate to this.

    Awesome write
