Passing Time

by Robert Healy   Apr 11, 2012

Here I sit upon a bench
Beside the Canal Bank edge
The water passes quietly by
The light breeze rustling in the hedge
The birds that fly around so free
Are whistling songs just for me
The grass cut low
The trees stand tall
On a summers day
For one and all.
People sit outside a pub
They laugh and cheer
And talk, that's good
Children's voices sound the most
No child out here
Is yet a ghost
And look! Here's a Swan
So proud and stern
And ducks do play
Among the ferns.
It's a wonderful day
For life to breath
A day in our life's
A day we all need.
I didn't sit here
To write a poem
But Killcock is so wonderful
It's my second home.
I just came out here
To visit a friend
So I'll stop what I'm doing
And put down my pen.
But before I do
Let me say to you
If you're passing this way at all
Sit down on my bench
Beside the Canal Bank edge
Any day; Winter, Spring,
Summer or fall.
