Hope

Driving down the road, you asked me 1 day
could we be lovers
and take our relationship a long long way

we both agreed that love was a beautiful thing
where our hearts and minds met
on a long winding patch
it was game,set and match

you would drift in and out of my world
like an evening breeze
sometimes gentle sometimes rough
bringing in little of pain and lots of pleasure
finally my life was out of the trough

soon love became a compromise
and how i wished
that it would wash away with the tide
not knowing
if wishes were horses
beggars would ride

now that we have grown apart
everything appears blur
for one so gifted with the tongue
even the speech has slurred

who would have thought
that friends can't be lovers
as the thought still lingers
that you will be back
to recreate the magic
that my lonely world lacks

--That last stanza almost made my cry, because of how much I an relate to this, the words I want to say. Wonderful poem, truly. 5/5
