Thank You

Perhaps this will be the only poem
I will ever unclothe with sadness;
the most innocent poem I will ever write,
for when it comes to poetry,
all I think about is me and my sadness.
Today, I'd like to be completely honest-
I want this to be free,
rather than over-shadowed by imperfect
metaphors
that I try so hard to perfect.
This poem will fly like a phoenix without fire
but it will lighten up your day
better than a thousand suns.
Even the jasmines tucked in your hair
and interwoven through your poems
will feel unworthy of its radiance.
When you read this,
(and anyone else)
it will blossom a smile on your face;
you will be in tears and filled with laughter
whilst making your dress look beautiful.
After you read this,
you will finally feel seventeen.
You've not only achieved something for
yourself today,
but you made me write a poem
unburdened by darkness;
a poem filled with happiness-
something I've been trying to do for years-
(but failed-
until now)
I guess all I want this poem to say is
...thank you.
