One World

by Poet on the Piano   May 26, 2012

You say I have too much soul
that I'll jump away from the world,
because of my innocence.

But mother, I don't want to be the silence
between lights
for then there will be nothing
revealing my thoughts-
no one will see any difference
between black and white
unless they open up
inside, and look past
traffic to the real signals
waiting;

of course, I've always wanted
to awaken others with my dreams
and don't doubt that I'll show
what they can be made of.....
my heart is peaceful
but still in pieces-
can't you tell I've been restless here?
you've sacrificed your shoulders
for warmth,
your eyes for understanding,
and your heart for love
but what about your eyes?

I have to grow somewhere,
however wild it may be....

Because to find out how
I can heal,
I need to walk that desire
to fight and defend
what gives us uniqueness.

I can't keep circling, mother,
I don't want to be the chosen shape
that the world gives out-
let me run with my own hands
and a thirst for one world
where reality doesn't make
us grieve.

don't give yourself up for it,
mother,
for I know if you let your veins
sing, in the name of life,
you'll realize we're all capable
of something great-
together.

You truly write some kick as* poetry, MarryAnne.

I couldn't resist commenting on this one, and darn my finals. Reality will always hurt those who hide themselves in compliments. You just expressed that perfectly.

    'of course, I've always wanted
to awaken others with my dreams
and don't doubt that I'll show
what they can be made of'

I feel too jealous that it wasn't me who wrote this. Just perfect. Can't add more. I am desperate in how I might praise this poem and do it just.

    Nominated next week. Better wins!
