I Won't Miss Our Goodbye

by Poet on the Piano   May 27, 2012

I love you to the moon
and all the way back
to where we are standing
secure....

when it watches the night for us
I'll be awaiting the sun's compass
with eager eyelashes
that hope for brilliant gazes,

but those nocturnal adieu's
are like dream catchers-
they stay by us, remembrances
of how close we were
to touching the side of its face
and knowing that it shines
however distant,
for those who believe.

Although we linger alongside
the railings of moonlight
and nod our heads to the rhythm
of sunrise,
I lament the beautiful silence
of night's gentle cooing.

Yet, night is day's brother,
and in the blessing of its presence,
you and I learn how to live
through each day
and move from serenity
to stoplights of tolerance.

Though we move as one
among wet pavements
laden with sunny, hot rain,
we still belong somewhere beneath
the stars of where we found
the number of each other's quiet breaths-
counting times we ran from cars
and stepped up higher
to cradle the moon strings below our necks
and lay underneath nestling memory.

    No nits!!
    There isn't a lot I can say about this apart from this;
I have heard and read discussions, about whether poems should rhyme or not.
There are those that say they should, There are those that say you have more freedom if they don't.
My own view is this, I write both, If you aren't going to have a rhyming form in place then every word needs to earn its place.
This poem is a great example of those. There is some fantastic imagery in this.
To me this is about a happy couple who enjoy a stroll together under the stars and moon.
Maybe they met under the moon and remember and revisit this scenario to give them renewed strength in their relationship.
Maybe they are fearful that this will have to end one day because everything is so perfect at the moment.
    A fantastic read.
