I Thought That it was Raining

I thought that it was raining

For the thunder I had heard

Other than thunder, all was silent

Not even a note from a bird

I thought that it was raining

For dark clouds filled the sky

And after hearing the thunder

I didn't think to question why

I thought that it was raining

I heard the wind whistle through

Little did I know

The wind brought a friend to visit too

I thought that it was raining

So I stepped outside to see

But when the droplets came down from above

They didn't soak, but blanket me

I thought that it was raining

And as my remaining seconds flashed

I realized it was raining

But the sky was raining ash.
