Yours Faithfully [A Poem to Peanut Butter]

by Poet on the Piano   Jun 12, 2012

Dearest Peanut Butter,
what have you done to my lips?
You have made them locked together,
and put my heart in even more chaos.
Your taste has made me swim to the
farthest islands, just to devote myself
to you,

as if I could escape the sticky skin
that I caress ever so gently
across my hands
and then into the intricate
lining of my being.....

a jar of you and a heart of me
is the best type of love,
the purest and most impressionable.

Because when I consume handfuls
or scoops of you,
I can do nothing but sigh and chew
for I know that you will always
be attached to my life.

My love will never leave you.

June 11, 2012.
A dedication to peanut butter [which will always be awesome] and my dad [who wanted me to write about it randomly]. Thanks for reading!

I wouldn't fancy trying to consume peanut butter by the hands, imagine the mess.
You would get it all over your face, clothes, and think of the calories!!
I like the fact you can make a simple thing like peanut butter put your heart into chaos.
You must really love it; it conjures up images of losing yourself in a jar of PB
That little snippet of peace when you can just enjoy the moment.
I tend to write mostly rhymes and I notice yours are mainly free verse.
I find it easier to talk about flow and timing with rhyming, however If I read this out aloud (not too loud though, the kids asleep, plus the neighbours would think I am a nutter, especially declaring my love for PB) It flows effortlessly.
    Loved this bit the best.
Your taste has made me swim to the
farthest islands, just to devote myself
    to you,

There isn't much that can make you feel this way.
(Just realised I used the word 'nutter' in the review of this poem about peanut butter!!)

When I read this, I had to laugh because I know peanut butter all too well myself. Instead of having a chocolate addiction, I have a peanut butter addiction :D kind of sad.

Anyway, after I read this I couldn't help but feel like I have a comrade in arms here :) I am not the only one who loves peanut butter apparently :D at least I hope not.
