A fire lit show

by Chelsey   Jun 13, 2012

The night sky is ebony, and the stars
spell romantic words with their crystal lights
The air holds a fever of 80 degrees
and the rustle of the maple leaves
rouse summers arrival

Lightning bugs sparkle in the backyard
gleaming sunlit colors of green and yellow
Shaming lanterns and midnight candles
with their charismatic glow

An umbrella shades us from
the strength of their shine
They flicker soft lullabies,
providing an elegant, special night
for us to fall in love

* written for a club contest, rules were:
had to be about an insect
80 words exact
4 word title
mention a season
use the the words sunlit, umbrella, and rouse

This is so beautiful Chelsey, I loved how you had to write about an insect and include a season as well. It was very calming to read and your words flow into such a gorgeous scene, intimate between the two of you. Ebony is one of my favorite words, and I liked how you started the poem off with it to describe the night!

Absolutely beautiful- I feel like you chose the images and words so carefully like they were fragile, enjoyed reading this poem of yours!
