Fallen men.

by Rebecca Bentley   Jun 21, 2012

Days have past without a call,
her heart is stretched in worry.
In hope, there was no final fall,
And you'll be home in no hurry.

The news is filled with fallen men,
Who never made it home,
Who's wives had never said goodbye,
To the hero's, there no more.

You always phoned her every night,
To say good night god bless.
But now you've suffered your worst blow,
She'll soon find out you're dead.

And as the men in white approach,
up to the narrow street,
Your wife now knelt beside there feet,
Was to wrapped up in grief.

I'm sorry, they then started,
she let out her silent sobs.
Her heart broke and they heard it,
I'm sorry your husband's gone..

Another lady hears her cries,
But they add to her own,
Today she also had the news,
Her son won't make it home.

Children, are now crying,
Where has daddy gone?
He told us that he loved us so,
But will never now be home.

A union jack draped coffin,
Each name read from a list,
Of the fallen men,
Who gave there lives,
To a world that's filled with sin.

Friends and family gather round,
And there hearts ache so much more,
Because You'll never see your babies grow,
And its all because of war.

To every deed, there's a season. The point lies within their victory. To every beginning, there's end. We sympathize with the bereaved.

Rebbeca, this is such a thought provoking and beautiful poem. Bought a tear to my eye.
So sad, but so very, very real in our times today.
One can only wonder at the pain and distress that one feels, when you're told that your loved one will not be coming back..
I'm so glad you have highlighted their plight in this poem. Great piece of work Rebecca!
