The Demon Inside Me

by Maria   Jun 28, 2012

I can hear steps.
The sound becomes louder and louder.
I'm scared.
Hide!
Too late.
Confusion. Panic.
What's happening?
Who is standing at the door?
I can't see.
I can't open my eyes.
I'm scared.
What's going to happen to me?
Silence.
Don't make a sound.
Stop breathing.
He must not hear you.
Otherwise, you're dead,
if you're not already.
Hide!
He's coming after you.
Who is he
and what does he want from you?
You don't have time.
It's a matter of life and death.
You have no choice.
Run for your life.
Silence.
You're out of breath now.
Open your eyes.
It's fine. Open your eyes.
He's gone now
Was he even there?
Does he really exist?
Is it me
or is it you?
Is it a stranger?
Or is it someone you know?
Maybe it's the person
you know better than anyone else does.
Think about it.
Close your eyes again.
Relax
Breathe. He's not watching you.
Forget.
Maybe he's not dead, not yet.
Maybe he's just in your head.
Look for him
If you find him, then he never left.
If he visits you again, don't ask who he is
you already know he's just in your head,
makes you question your sanity,
are you alive or are you dead?
Close your ears
He knows your fears
Don't listen to what he says
Hold back your tears
he's been torturing you for years
Kill him before he kills you.

I like this a lot your mind has to truly open the door your imagination for this poem to really sink in. The subconscious mind always has its voices. Great poem. 5/5
