This Candle

by lyle fortin   Jun 28, 2004

This candle I hold in mourning
To the death of what we had
My heart and soul did all the pouring
And it all poured into your hand.
I'll spend the rest of my days
Standing on a rooftop as I shout
Into the rolling fog and haze
"What we had is what love is all about."
Can't you see the warmth I feel when I see your face
And how you stop the rain in my head
Can't you see the light you bring to this dreary place
And how you stop the storm I always dread
Yet you toy with this love and emotion
And get me to hold onto this rope
You like to have my hopeless devotion
Even though you know there is no hope.
