Peace in the Saturday light

by Willie   Jun 30, 2012

Cool clear fountain waters
Splashing emerald city skies
Mellencamp's the backdrop
Picnic people passing by

The epitome of Saturday
Folks out doing things folks do
I am here with pad and pencil
Patiently awaiting you

The home team's wearing white
The visiting red, white and blue
A nine year old swiped second
So, so much for turning two

But now the pitcher's rattled
'cause the ducks got on the pond
"Don't let the sun go down on me"
I sing along with Elton John

Pretty day to walk your dog
Skip a rock or two
Three straight strikeouts 'cross the way
Our rattled pitcher made it through

I guess you won't be coming
Which makes me sad but I must say
I'm also rather tickled
As I head out on my way

Our little rattled pitcher
Ear to ear his grin so bright
Came 'rounding third having won the game
With a 3-run blast to right

I really enjoyed this poem. You have captivated the reader with your wonderful visual display of words... You took me to the park, where I saw beauty and I could actually hear the sounds from the ball game. I adore poems that whisk me away.... You also wrapped your feelings and disappointment within this poem which gave it a creative flare.... really enjoyed this piece, and welcome to PnQ :-)
