Let Freedom Ring?

by Willie   Jul 1, 2012

To love the Lord our God
wholly, heart, soul and mind.
That's the first and great command.
The second's like unto it
it says love our fellow man.
Even if they reached the top
by plowings
of another's hands.

In our hustle bustle hip-hop world
reaching for the top,
nothing changes, passing strangers,
where to start, when to stop.
Can a friendship grow
rooted not in probity?
If a loyal heart's lighthearted,
is that flippant loyalty?
If it's true we're so enlightened
then how is it we don't see
that self-contained our solace prisons
leave us void solidity?

Some from coat tails
focused, frightened
all end 6' Ft. deep in dirt.
Self-involved,
golden hearted,
don't be angry,
don't be curt.
If we smile
the world's with us.
If we don't
we're left to hurt.
And if we've earned it
count on others:
off their back, they'll give the Shirt.

Our answers are so simple,
that,
there must be so much more;
so,
we search for simple answers
blinded to the problem's core.
The problem is
that back in Eden
when we ASSumed
our right to choose,
we chose ourselves
this opened floodgates
left our God
for sin's cesspools.

Can we claim we're friends
yet not proclaim integrity?
Can we claim we're loyal
with no bent toward loyalty?
If it's true we're so enlightened
tell me please why we don't see,
that,
self-contained our solace prisons
leave us void solidity.
It seems to me,
that,
if self-contained in solace prisons
we're deceived to think we're free.
