Ursula

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 1, 2012

You've imprisoned others
with your seas of anger,
though you approach me
like a sweet urchin
you care to see
safe and guarded.

Yet you stole the reason
I held to my breast,
the way my feet
never needed to gasp
for air.

And I signed
your witchery,
craving your protection
like a little girl
who never touched
the sand between
her toes.

How I once called you
that ghost of my mother,
the one who could
be controlled,
held tight against...

only to be made mute
into your Desiree-
as if I didn't know
how you were lifted
onto your throne
of fury, or how mother's
breath could be so
obese.

Without innocence
in voice
I am locked,
able to be transformed
into an unforgettable
curse,

that will not
be able to find the
riches up above,

up from where you
suffocate love,
and torch it's loveliness
of silence
into your own obdurate
creation.

Am I just another
spell, that you will feed
up on the grave,
or will I betray love's
truest kiss
and become your
marionette?

    MarryAnne,

I feel such sadness here and I can't help but wonder if you really mean this or not because it totally broke my heart. The descriptions, the way you titled it with Ursula, the way I read it with goosebumps and chills, the way you said 'approach me like a sweet urchin' and how you made me feel you...I can't figure out where or how to comment. I just found this quite heartbreaking and perfect. I really want to see it on the front page, I hope it will!

    'And I signed
    into your protection,
    only to be made mute
    into your Desiree-'

What a smart brain you have. Only that I disliked the repeated usage of 'into', I honestly was slightly disappointed. I hate it when such mistakes or let's says typos distract me from wonderful meanings like this one. But it's totally forgivable since what you have here is beyond beautiful. I love the insertion of 'Desiree'. How clever is that. And the way you sought for protection and the way I felt insecure about this whole thing...I'm back to being speechless. I'm sorry!

What can I say? Just perfect.

Thank you Tara, Abed, and Noura! I appreciate it so much and I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Noura, thanks for the suggestion about "into", I know I can probably edit and make into something more. Take care

The first time I read this, I ignored it, for I forgot who is Ursula.

And when Noura directed me again in here :P I remembered her from Ariel...

    such a beautiful piece, M'Anne!:)
