The Leaf

by SouthernGal   Jul 4, 2012

I've come across this black and torpid wood
Whose depth and darkness is well understood
I pulled my car onto the road's shoulder
While the evanescent wind grew colder
Into the dark, I began to wander
Alone with my thoughts, I start to ponder
The old pines rustled in the midnight breeze
And the glow of the moon peered through the trees
For miles, no one can be found in their home
Just my sedentary car and I alone
The river grows near and my thoughts accrue
I watch a leaf drown in the rapid blue
No one here to save and resuscitate
Do the leaf and I suffer the same fate?
