Bellis perennis

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 6, 2012

While she peers
over my shoulder, and calls you
a mere pretty sight,

I say you are more akin
to everlasting

because your combed wings
of hair are white asters
and soft mustard
eyes....

And even in the least mild
of life's ongoing winters,
you still flower on and on

into a part of my soul.

And with your innocence,
I am a child again,
knowing beauty as only
the opening and closing
of the day,

and the yellow flowers
that shade itself in unwritten
smiles.

For a poem can only tell so much,
and ink can only pen until its veins
are dozing in color,
but with a glimpse of a daisy,

there is a life of purity
that few eyes can even
dream of.

    Dozing in color.

DOZING IN COLOR. You kill me with the imagery and the playfulness here. I definitely feel a strong sense of innocence in this poem, which works perfectly with daisies. This is beautiful!
