Poker Chips and Dominoes

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 8, 2012

From the corner of my eye, I watched
the sun slip from consciousness,
and fade beyond a human mind....

As moonshine chafed the concentration
that my hands had already put on,
I stood with my arms beside me,

surrendering

to some play of night.

The Joker cards were not contriving
at the side of the shelf,
yet I felt my muse liquidate
into the form of when I last
kissed you.

You were embraced by sleep
with nothing but dream dust
on your fly away lips,
and I had no way to move,
no reason to hold away from you.

And now, like all the puzzles set before me,
I find red melodies on the hard wood floor,
love from whence you sailed me to
with your intoxicating mist.

But there's no one to harmonize with,
when you feel frightfully alone
with an empty Vegas table
and a bottle of Jack,
set to waste.

I'm sure I won't be getting far tonight...

Everything else around is black and white,
and I can't help but fall
when I see what your memory has become
and how I couldn't build back up
any other love,
but the one I lost.

Such a sad and different feeling of poem reading from you MA! This was very different and so touching.

    "You were embraced by sleep
    with nothing but dream dust
    on your fly away lips,"

I adore these lines. Again with your imagery. You have a knack!
